1.- Los Alebrijes - Oaxaca

These multicolored figures of animals or extraordinary characters are the living expression of the imagination of the people of Oaxaca, especially San Martin Tilcajete and San Antonio Arrazola; they are carved in copal wood and painted in a very traditional way, since the technique has been inherited and preserved as a treasure.

The origin of the name given to these figures can be deciphered in a character: Pedro Linares, a native of Mexico City who through these characters represented his dreams and also left a legacy that now Oaxaca invites us to acquire them, as they are good luck.

Alebrijes have a great history behind them and are a great contribution to Mexican art as they are considered much more than a handicraft, so let color and fantasy decorate the house!

2.- Huichol Art - Wixarika

The Huichols are an ethnic group that took refuge high in the mountains and did not receive any kind of Spanish influence. They live high in the Sierra Madre Occidental in the north of Jalisco and within their mystical culture we can find one of the most valuable artistic expressions in Mexico, of course: Huichol art.

This art has existed since ancient times with the visions of the shamans when they consumed peyote from which they created figures of deities and sacred animals, these are made with chaquira with a combination of bright colors and the crosses are woven with tsikurite yarn.

By buying these figurines on your visit to Nayarit or Jalisco, besides decorating your home with so much color, you will give it an authentic magic and of course help the economy of these communities.

3.- Tree of life - Metepec

The place is Metepec, State of Mexico, this is where the fabulous trees of life that resemble candelabras made of clay but addressing a theme of ancestral memory or Mexican culture originated. They are full of colorful ornaments, floral shapes, birds, characters and more uses of the Mexican imagination.

When you enter Metepec you will see these colors and you will get lost in its handicraft market where you simply will not know which object or tree to choose because they all represent the work and dedication of the potter families and of course because of their great beauty.

4.- Wool Rugs - Teotitlan del Valle

The beautiful wool carpets of Teotitlán del Valle and Santa Ana have designs notably influenced by Zapotec and Mixtec cultures reflecting the history of the local area. There are also rugs depicting famous paintings and others with more modern designs. The rugs are woven on treadle looms with wool brought from the Mixtec region of Oaxaca. The artisans wash it, brush it and make the yarn, which is dyed with homemade natural dyes. The design of the carpet is drawn and the weaving begins next. Weaving a rug on a treadle loom is a slow process; it can take up to several months to complete an average-sized rug, if it has a complex design.
