Kieri by Refugio Perez
Meaning of the stamping: Within their community the Huicholes follow the path of knowledge through the traditional use of the hallucinogenic cactus, peyote. Here is the story of the confrontation of the Deer God, on the left, with the sorcerer Kieri, coming out of a golden cup flower.
The Deer god shoots five arrows at it, it is said that the fifth arrow hits its heart but that its spirit flies to a rocky mountain among the wind tree. The Huichol treat the Kieri plant with great care, rarely touching it, never eating it and definitely not cutting it. The kieri can visit someone in their sleep and offer them knowledge, ease in music or victory over their enemies, but the pact made with it for a defined time must not be broken or there will be consequences.
