Huichol Art worsted board

This large-format Huichol yarn table evokes the way of working on the ancient ceremonial table «Nierika». Each of the pieces that the Huichol artist makes has a very special representation of their roots and customs, based on the belief about their origins, that is, in each of the four elements of creation: earth, water, air and fire. The origin of Huichol art goes back to ancient times, when the shamans or priests of the community created figures that represented deities and sacred animals. Scorpions, iguanas, turtles, deer and jaguars are just some of the forms of these divinities, depicted on canvases made of wooden boards, prepared with special wax and yarn threads.

The tables or paintings of "Nierika" are tables that can be decorated with either worsted or wool threads, in which they reflect the most representative elements for this culture. The Huichol art with yarn is beautiful, colorful and original, a piece that you will want to have in your home.

This is why they used to take these paintings to sacred places to create a spiritual portal and be able to communicate directly with both the gods and their ancestors.

Through these tables they represent the elements that are sacred to them such as their traditions, their rites, their history, their dreams, their visions and their worldview.
