Huichol art (Wixárika) is the materialization of an ancient worldview. Huichol art is something we can be really proud of. Our incredible artisans create unique pieces of incalculable value and great tradition.

The Huichols are a deeply religious people and they capture their worldview in the art they produce. Their religion is based on 3 elements: corn, deer and peyote. It is said that much of the aesthetic of the works is influenced by the visions they have during the peyote rituals.

One of the most popular crafts are the yarn paintings called "nierikas", according to their beliefs, when there is communication between the gods and people, through bright colors, shapes and figures, a portal or nierika opens, which represents the knowledge acquired in the ceremony.

But also very favorite by the Nayarit people are undoubtedly the wooden sculptures covered with small colored beads, glued with beeswax or epoxy glue.

The technique of gluing beads captures symbols such as the Eye of God, Peyote, Corn, Scorpion, Deer, among others, which are important and synonymous with protection and offering for the Wixárika culture. The work that we see today is the result of an adaptation to the offerings that were made ancestrally.

Before, stones from around an anthill were used to create the symbols that would adorn the gourds for offerings with the different ranges of colors of the earth. With the arrival of the beads that come from the Czech Republic to Mexico, the Wixárikas changed their material and now make pieces of incalculable artistic value with the same meaning but more colour.

Huichol art from Mexico

When acquiring a Wixárika piece, one must be aware of and respect what it means. Knowing these stories leads us to value more and more what Wixárikas hands do.

You can see some works and if you want to know all his work we invite you to visit our section Huichol art

[102
372
post-8319","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-blog-de-artesanias-de-mexico","tag-arte-huichoil
["GET
