It is important to note that the \"Huicholes\" prefer to be called Wirr\u00e1rika or Wix\u00e1rika and in plural Wixaritari.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Who are the Huichols? Many of these pieces that represent religious symbolism such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The muvieris<\/strong>, some small arrows made of bamboo that incorporate feathers at one end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ni\u00e9rika<\/strong>&nbsp;It is created based on circular fabrics of yarn with many colors with a hole in the center, sometimes it can have a mirror covering the hole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The tacuats<\/strong>&nbsp;Also known as backpacks, they are embroidered and sometimes also have beads attached to them. They are very functional objects where shamans treasure their sacred symbols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The uweni<\/strong>&nbsp;which is a type of dwarf chair that is only used for ritual use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally there is<strong>&nbsp;the Tepo<\/strong>, which is a type of drum made from the trunk of the oak tree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cultural history, heritage and legacy<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">The Wix\u00e1rika ethnic group is one of the ethnic groups that has managed to maintain its traditions and culture almost intact over time, being transmitted from generation to generation through the centuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">With the conquest, the Huichols had to flee to the Sierra to try not to be found by the Spanish troops, but some of them did not manage to flee in time and were taken by the Franciscan monks to later be converted to Christianity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>There is evidence of some documents that mention how the Huichols occupied the Jalisco region, the stories of Alonso Ponce dating from 1587<\/strong>, They tell about an ethnic group that united with an ethnic group called guachichiles to carry out incursions in the settlements and in the caravans coming from the Spaniards, it is believed that the ethnic group to which he was referring was that of the Huichols.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Huichol symbols stories and experiences told<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Huichol crafts are full of symbolism and are deeply religious<\/strong>, their two main forms of expression are through figures or objects made with beads and wax, as well as yarn paintings, in these pieces of art they manage to capture their vision of the world and the cosmos, myths, legends, the history of creation and other visions that occur in peyote rituals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Huichol handicrafts, beads and yarn as a brush<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The beads are placed by hand one by one, very meticulously<\/strong>&nbsp;on top of a surface waxed with Campeche wax, to create beautiful pieces full of textures and great color.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The famous tables of yarn<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The famous tables made of worsted thread are the result of nierika<\/strong>, or the so-called \u201cgift of seeing\u201d. These types of paintings are created on wooden boards also covered with wax, and in which complex designs with a great symbolic charge are made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Huichol art with figures<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">Among the main drawings represented in these pieces you can find the three most important elements of his cosmogony, which are&nbsp;<strong>the deer, the peyote, the corn and the eye of God, the fire, the man with deer horns or fire feathers, the lizard and the eagle.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The nierika, energy, mirrors and cosmological beliefs<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">As for their religion, for them&nbsp;<strong>the \"nierika\" includes everything that exists<\/strong>, through the initiates and their great effort to obtain \"the gift of seeing\".
