Wooden jaguar head hand painted by artisans from Oaxaca, Mexico. In the Zapotec culture, the alebrije, is a wild, mystical and protective animal, linked to every individual since birth; it receives the name of nahual. Alebrijes are carved in copal wood and painted by hand.
